The book of Colossians provides an incredible vision of what life is to be as we discover and keep the vision of Christ before us. If we hope to ever do something significant for God, it always begins with a vision. But the vision is not of what you are going to do or of what I am going to do. The vision presented in Colossians of our Lord Jesus Christ becomes all-encompassing as to how we go about life.
We have a lot of things that compete for our attention: nationalistic politics, secular culture, trendy religious ideas, false spirituality, authoritative power, our proud ethnicity and our moral heritage. At the very top ruling and reigning over all is Jesus as Messiah and Lord. The whole book focuses on one central matter: Jesus of Nazareth is the Lord of all – even over Rome and its empire and over every other option and opinion. The reason given is the resurrections of Jesus, which mad Jesus Christ distinct and different than other religious philosophies What Paul offers us is a comprehensive vision of life under King Jesus and sketches for us what doing life really looks like.
I would encourage you to pray this prayer daily: Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ on my right, Christ on my left, Christ where I lie, Christ where I sit, Christ where I arise…(Prayer of St. Patrick). And I would also encourage you to read the book of Colossians as we go through it. You can follow the readings based upon the sermons listed in the newsletter.
Hope you can join us every week!
