A Place to Belong!

Kent Palmer

Kent Palmer serves as the Senior Pastor of Ridgewood Baptist Church. He and his wife of thirty years, Phyllis, began serving at Ridgewood during the snowstorm of December 1, 2007. Prior to that, they served for nearly 14 years at Libertyville Evangelical Free Church, in northern Illinois, having also been a part of that church for 3 years in the early 1990s. Kent began his education at Moody Bible Institute, continued his studies for a B.S. and M.A. at Calvary Bible College. He subsequently earned his M.Div. at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and in 2012 completed his Doctor of Ministry degree at Trinity as well. Kent, who grew up on a farm in Indiana, has never left his first calling of shepherding the local church. His passion is to lead as a servant along with the partnership, affirmation and blessing of the church leadership. Living with, loving and serving the church is his life’s vocation. Supporting and encouraging believers in their own authentic walk with the Lord is his passion. Kent met Phyllis at Moody and found that they both liked sports! Over the years, Phyllis has been involved in various ministries within the church. Most recently she was involved in the women’s ministry, challenging and leading women for growth in their whole person: heart, soul, mind and strength. She currently works as a manager and writer in the software industry.

In addition to moving to Wisconsin, Kent and Phyllis are in the process of watching their children leave the nest, and they are enjoying every minute of it. After 20+ years of coaching and or supporting their kids in sports ranging from basketball to water polo, as well as music, they are now watching Team Palmer in their life pursuits: Brian lives and works in northern Illinois; Brad lives in Chicago and works in the suburbs, and Ben is a student at Midwestern University in Glendale, AZ working towards a Doctorate of Physical Therapy. Kent is an avid sports fan, plays golf whenever he can, and spends time together with Phyllis doing house projects and walking with Wrigley, their Wheaten Terrier.
